In my old computer, when I typed something into a text field on a webpage, it stayed there even after visiting other pages and I could refer back to it. With my new computer, the text disappears so that I can%26#039;t refer back to it after I%26#039;ve visited another page or clicked %26#039;back%26#039; in the browser.

sounds like maybe you want autocomplete. Go to the content tab in tools -%26gt; internet options. You should be able to turn on autocomplete from there.
