How can I put a visitor counter on my Google Web page?

Everything I try isn%26#039;t working! I have tried puting in HTML but it just keep showing up as the HTML on the published page, not as the counter. Can someone who has actually done one on their google site help me?

I am pretty new to this, and know almost nothing about HTML and how it works, but I don%26#039;t know what else to try!

Is their a %26quot;code%26quot; or %26quot;HTML%26quot; view. If so put it in this.

Otherwise it will automatically change %26lt; to the HTML equivalent. And break it.
